hey guys,
I just graduated from Med school. My clinical knowledge is better than my knowledge about basic science.
That's why I am going for Step 2 ck first.

Would you advise to start with Step 1? I mean, is there a lot of stuff in step 2 ck that is correlated to step 1 which makes it necessary to take step 1 at first?

thanks in advance!

Just try to search a bit, you will find this topic discussed umpteen times.

In my humble opinion, there is no need of giving step 1 first. It helps but is not necessary at all. You can score 95+ without it, no doubt. The opposite is also true (i.e., knowledge of step 2 content helps you during step 1).

And the experience of sitting for step 2 first will help you handle better step 1 (which is, theoretically, tougher because it tests things you've studied a long ago). At least this is what happened to me.

Good luck !

Not necessary but I would deffinitely recommend to start with step 1. Info in step 1 helps you incredibbly much for step 2 PLUS the step 2ck format is much more difficult to manage if its the first time you do an exam like this since the questions are INCREDIBLY loooooong!!! and you will struggle with time if you are not used to this.
I took step 1 and then step 2ck 5 months later and I don't regreat it a single bit I think it was a great choice and I recommend it big time. This is what worked for me and I heard many people say this too but I have also heard people taking step 2 before step 1 but believe me....once you take step 2 before, you will have a lot of problem to start studying for step 1 since it is so different and so much more complicated and you will have what in Mexico we call "hueva" jajajaja.
Another thing is that the material that you study for step 1 is more likely to help you for step 2 then the other way around.....
And you will not forget your clinical material...people say that if you are stronger in clinical science you should go ahead and take step 2ck first but I think that is not a good approach...you will not forget clinical science and if you study for step 1 the knowledge you have will help you in step 1 and if you are good in clinics then once you study for step 2 what you know plus the knowledge you got from step 1 will help you in inimaginable ways. In fact...since knowledge from step 1 helps you in step 2ck being very poor in basic science will affect your score on step 2 so why risk it? Go for step 1 first...that is just my opinion.

Thanks for your help!
It really helps me deciding which step to take at first. I know both steps are quite tough and require an intensive workout.
I think I go for step 1 first because the exam contains the basic stuff I thoroughly have to fresh up and study. In the end I will be relieved to be done with most of the basic science. Another point: Within the next few months I will have spare time for one exam only. Afterwards I start working fulltime for some time so there will be a almost a year between those two steps and it would probably be tougher to approach step 1-stuff then.

Good luck to all of you! nodnod
