One more question, can we do venous blood gases instead of arterial, I was reading an article today which said to do venous blood gases in a pt. of ketoacidosis.

when doing blood gases, ur r measuring the pulm func by the O2 & CO2 parameters, so it should be an arterial measurment so that the concentrations correlate directly to the gas exchange, while if in venous, a high variability in values will be there due to the difference in the metabolic rate between a person & the other, & even in the same person, the MR is not constant In ketoacidsis, ure measuring the resp reaction to the metabolic acidosis, so the same should be applied Hope that helps
