When you "allow to die" by 1. withholding tube feeds or 2. taking the patient off the respirator, how long do they take to die (on average)? What do you tell the family if they ask if their dying family member will feel any pain when dying?

Allow dying is by withholding any support, but i'm not sure about analgesia for pain, its just isn't ethical?? Can't tell how long, depends on the condit, if on vent, the will die immediat if can't breath spont.. u should tell them the truth

Thanks but what about terminating tube feeds, and they are breating ok. How long will that take? In a hospice they can get all the pain meds they want, but what about in a hospital setting?
