i heard that recently the b1 b2 visa rules have been modified.....ie,
for a B1 /B2 visa holder, they dont allow more than 6 months in ONE CALENDER YR' .... compared to 6 months in 'each visit '....

is that true? could anyone please confirm? where to look for the rules??

I havent heard of this either. But I was stamped for 3months when I first entered USA. Do u guys know how to extend this for 6months??

there is a form you need to fill out and send to an immigration office. I did it last year, cost around $200. You need to file before your stay expires. I filed like a week before- it takes several weeks for a response so I got the extension permission two weeks before I left the country, but like I said as long as you file before it expires, you are fine. I forgot about the form number. Spend some time on the i-net and go to www.uscis.gov .

Good luck!

Thank you so much medicus for the info! It helps me a lot.
Do u have any more details about this issue though? Even though your period ended you havent depart right? U just waited for the extension process to come to an end? Do I need to go to a government building at any point to hand any documents or to get some documents, like the extended ı94, or will I be fine just filling and sending that form via internet?
And did u have to declare any reasons and documents to prove that to make your extension??

I just sent you a PM. You don't need to go anywhere. File the extension form (I-539) per mail?maybe it is possible online too(I don't know) with the money. They ask for copies of your passport, I-94, explanation and evidence on why you want tp stay longer, read the filing instructions with the form very carefully! As long as you file before your stamp expires(even if it is 2 days) it is ok. Then you just wait. Some time afterwards you are going to get a receipt notification- that your request is being processed. The process takes a looong time. It actually may not arrive before you have to leave(the real approval). In this case the notification is very important- it is the only proof that you applied on time and legally. They are not going to send you a new I-94, just an approval notice. That's it. nod

GL!!!

This helps me a lot, thank you! I owe you one.
Right now I'm doing obervership and I can not get any letter from the hospital. So do u think just telling them that I have to stay for the match and interviews would be enough?

  #8

So you would like to extend at least until mid-end of March - correct? I don't know when your stamp is expiring but that means at least 6-7 months. I don't know if you can extend for more than 6 months...It will be good to provide any kind of evidence- don't you have something confirming your observership? Or was it just a verbal confirmation? You can send also your USMLE score reports, just anything supporting the explanation why you want to stay etc.- the more evidence you can provide, the better!

I hope evrything works for you!
