minang wrote: therefore it is called personal statement. It can capture stuffs that are not reflected in your credentials and that you want to convey to the readers. Whereas I agree with that, I need to say that we have to realize that your personal statement isn't a place where you explain why your scores are that low/high... US med graduates told me that the PS should not be longer than 1 page, any type of font... If the statement is long, it is boring and the applicant does not know what to focus on...

Thanks alot justice and minang: That is what Iwas thinking. telling about me, why particular field attracts me and what can I bring to the program alreadymake 3 paragraphs, I inserted a long para regarding difficulties and issues, I faced during the last 2 to 3 years,,,,,,,,,,,taking exams and not getting stellar scores was just one part of it... I was thinking that by telling about that time, I could give them an understanding that I can thrive on challenges and am an excellent fighter.......... What do u think? Thanks!

Not when you want it to be one page long yet precise. Dont be poetic here, just try to be effective.

Few things I felt were imp: Don't repeat things that your CV will contain Write about how you will fit into a particular field/program. Sometimes being cynically honest might do you more harm than good. All sample PS' start with why you looked unto medicine as a career. While this might give you a chance to introspection, cull from what you gain from that look inward. This consumes a lot of precious lines. Do dwell on your interests in the field. You could even have a PS suitably edited for a particular program where you fancy your chances.ERAS gives you that privilege. Few points that must be touched: Why medicine/ role models/ambitions/achievements other than those on CV/any philosophy if you have towards the profession/Strengths/touch weaknesses in positive words- should not be apparent, all the same adds a touch of sincerity to the PS/work ethic- do you enjoy seeing patients- of course you do/interests in the field/why should you pick me- what you can assure the PD.

How can you say about fitting a particular program if you are applying into several??? I think it is OK to be poetic, because you need to show yourself out as a solid yet multiinterest person... By other word, you have to demonstrate your PERSONALITY (the word that the rest of the world, along with a word "privacy", doesn't quite understand)...
