I can't tell you about form 183 since it is new, when I applied I only used form 186. I applied as a medical student and my dean in Managua gave me a letter saying that I was enrolled in UNAN. IT took me 7 months to prepare step 1, studying from Monday to Friday, and between 5 to 8 hours every day. Step 1 is the most difficult. Step 2 Ck took me 4 months, CS 1 month and step 3 2 months. It's always good to start with BQ and molecular biology since its widely asked in the exam and it's very difficult. Then I went in a block of Anatomy-Physiology-Pathology and at the end pharmacology-behavorila science-microbiology. I watched kaplan videos first and made my summaries and the last 3 months I practiced questions banks

Hey hollmann....you have to book your exam on prometric website for the exact date..you dont do that through ECFMG, and they shouldnt take long before they send you your 3 month eligibility period...i remember it was pretty automatic...dont know if you have it yet... You all see they raised cost for exam again!! $710 now...too much I think. ANyone know if you have to do any extra paperwork to REAPPLY for exam? or just pay? thanks!

drejcv as fas as I know, you dont need extra paperwork, once you submit a new application you can see in your profile you have not taken any step, so you start again. do you know if after a cancelation at prometric (on line) you need to call the test center?....bcoz I dont want to pay an extrafee :

Hey hollman, yeah I understadn whats studying and doing your Social Year...try to study with your actual date and like 2-3 weeks before the date choose wether you want to change it or not, and after doing a NBME...that way youll force yourself to study and if you move your date then its just more time! I think your material is good...although I have only studied GOljan there...I plan to take my test in March 2009! Anyone know when the best/worst time to take test is? I mean time when US students dont take it?? Merry Xmas everyone! And happy new year!

Hey, greetings from Guatemala. Im Jorge, 5th year medical student of the Universidad SanCarlos de Guatemala, currently at Hospital Roosevelt. Since the Residency at the united states is a very long process, first thing is first, right now im applying to do my clinical electives at the usa, i have pretty good chances, emailed hundreds of universities. Ive been reading a lot about the USMLE, the residency, and i have to say many say that US experience is a must have! so that is what i am doing. About the usmle material, u can get anything on the web, just google it and you will come around with many forums, usmle forums, arabian forums etc. I was thinking on taking my step 1 next year, but considering i want to Ace it to get into a good IM program, ill wait until after graduation to start to study. I read the entire thread, nice to meet you dr. EJCV, study hard for the Step 1 you have the opportunity to ACE it! by the way i was born at El Salvador, San Salvador, but raised in Guatemala, pd. since guatemala was disqualified from the world cup ES has my entire support! GREETINGS TO EVERYONE FROM EL PAIS DE LA ETERNA PRIMAVERA GUATEMALA

Hola a todos! My name is Juan Antonio and I'm from the country of the peces y mariposas, Panamá. Actually I'm not studying in Panamá, I'm in la Madre Patria, Spain. 5th year med student just waiting to graduate on 2010. My objectives are very clear to me: enter in a competitive General Surgery program as categorical Match. Looking forward to Match on 2011! Few days ago I received my Step 1 score and was sooo happy! Got a very competitive 252/99, and I'm looking to improve myself for further steps... but still, this is not enough, I need LORs, USCE and research/publications in order to enter in Surgery. So may I ask the proper way of getting into elective hands-on clerkships on Surgery?? Any experience to share? Wish all of you latinamerican friends a vry happy 2009!

I believe is possible. With hard work and dedication, you can do S1, S2 CK and CS in one year. I recommend you to do them in this following order: Step 1, Step 2 CK and Step 2 CS. Gud luuck!

Hey everyone hope you had a good XMAS! Wish you all a Happy New Year with lots of ECFMG certifications! hollman: yeah, I heard that it is better to take the exam when the majority of US medical Students are NOT taking them, just to have a better chance of getting a good grade (99 if you are looking for it)...but I dont know if its really true or what time during the year it is...I think its just BS! LatinGeorge: Nice to meet you! Salvadoreños taking over the world! LOL...but yeah its better to study full time for these so waiting to start is always good but you should anyways begin to get familiar with the info from now and this whole site is EXCELLENT for it...read post #153...I think thats the way to do it also... pmapunk66: man...my respects to you! hope you get into surgery (i KNOW its tough)...I have no personal experience on how to get into a surgery rotation but a "padrino" always works great yeah?! So see who can "sponsor" you on that! Also from what I know try to get into a Hospital you would like to work at, get a rotation there and that increases your chances of getting into that same Hospital...hope you get it! Being a US citizen in gonna help you A LOT!! Also...if you feel your knowledge of step 1 material is not so well, try stariting with Step2 ck or cs if youre done with clinical rotations...usually passing the "Easier" exams first gives you that motivation for the hard Step1...thats my opinion.. Take care everyone!
