Hi Hollman,
Good luck with your social service. Regarding time is not how many hours you will put into it but how effective are they. As you are fresh graduate you will need less than an old IMG as myself. In order to get 90 or more you will need to study hard, Kaplan is a must for almost everyone and probably complement with other source (all depends of your weaknessess) and for sure practice a lot of questions, that is the key point; once you feel confident go for the exam.

Hey hollman nice to see fellow central americans here! Well for step 1, like Torontonian said Kaplan is a must or Falcon course, any course is better (at least for me) rather than notes themselves...I tend to "waste time" when Im studying by myself! Also get a subscription for USMELWorld questions and give those a glance at least twice....also take some NBME exams, they give you a pretty good idea on how you are doing...do one before you start studying just to see improvement. So good luck in the "Anio Sexual" and hope for the best...keep in touch!

hey guys how good its kaplan lectures notes 2004 ¿? any experience with those¿?
im using goljian for patho :::::i think is the best ...

  #88

I would like to study with you but now I can't schedule a study time due to my job. Goljan for patho is a MUST and Kaplan LN as well; I will recommend only to add First Aid at the end and practice a lot of questions.

  #89

thanks torontonian...by the way where u from ¿? ...have u see any nicas around¿?

  #90

I'm from Mexico

  #91

Hey ....First Aid is a MUST for Step1....if you can, try to learn it and study it from the start...most of my friends taht passed said that First Aid was the most helpful after UW....so tackle First Aid since the beggining!

hey everyone... i've been reading taht you guys are asking about studying material! well... kaplan notes are the same.. use those Kaplan notes in pdf and just print is out, exam so far havent changed.. the questions from the real exam are just like UW, so UW is highly recomended!

Another thing is that you will hear a lot of rumors about the exam.. that bal bla was high yield.. xzy was a lot in the exam... well... the exam is very fair.. if you are doing well in UW and NBME which is a great estimator... you can walk in to the exam with confidence.. good luck ppl!!

Study FA like hell!! you will find a lot of questions from there after the exam.. but.. read kaplan notes too! UW, since day 1...

UW is great...I used to do it in "Tutor Mode" which is a great study guide...read explanations and all...they say the questions there are far more difficult than those in the exam but hey I dont find anything wrong with that, so use UW as more of a study guide than questions (predictive value). FA is awesome...although you do need a good base for that because in FA stuff is more in "bullet" style so reading some material helps too (Kaplan Notes or DVDs). NBME are a must also...take on at the start and then one after you are done studying....its good to see improvement!

Here's another Nicaraguan. I'm applying for 2009 match, my score are step 1 85, step 2 99, cs passed and step 3 87 (I found out 1 week ago, Thank good I passed it). For step 1 you only need: kaplan books and DVDs (if you're not taking the live courses which are way expensive), First Aid and UW. I didn't know about UW when I took step 1, but then during step 2, I can assure you that this was the study material that made get that nice 99. I strongly recomend it, not as a self assesement , but as an studying tool. The explanations are just great

Nice scores Principito....! Nice to see fellow central americans on the same path! how did you study for step 3? How was it? Congrats and good luck!

Well, I think step 3 was the hardest. The problem is that questions are very long but the information is really vague and you usually find yourself dealing with 2 answers that both seem correct. The simulated cases are OK, you just have to be familiar with the software. I used basically UW and Crush step 3. Kaplan is useless for step 3. Good luck to you Dr. EJCV
