Hi Friends,

I am not going to ask you for my chances for this match. Instead i am gathering advice from experienced members about applying wisely.

first My credentials.

1.I grad in 2001 but degree date 2002 so somehow i am still in 5 yr cut off.

2.Scores 92/94 first attempt. Cs result expented mid aug.

3.After grad i have huge gap till 2006 when i took my Step 1. In terms of USCE, I have volunteered in Free Medical clinics once a week for 3 months. (I take history and examine, expecting an LOR from this place soon)

4.An observership at a pvt physician office (a neurologist) this month. Expecting an LOR from her too! So basically just 2 USLOR, 3 LORs from my home country

5.An Psych Externship lined up in Aug (Not expecting a LOR because they require us to work 6 mon before we get anything although i will still mention it in my USCE)

6.GC

Now i am really interested in IM or Pathology. But Godforbid if i couldnt get those two, i will take FM or Psych (i dont want to stay home another year).

Should i even bother applying to IM or PATH university programs? How should i select programs and how many from each specialty should do. Considering the cost i am trying to apply effectively.

My target areas are either Texas or Ny, Nj, Ct, MD, VA, PA.

Anyone with the same scenario want to team up?

The list of programs for observership/externship.

DC General Hospital, Washington, DC
Duke Hospital, Durham, NC
Elmhurst Hospital, Queens, NY
Emory University Griffin Hospital, CT

Hi,
I think you will have a good chance. Anyway...don't be affraid to apply to university programs. BUT...do some homeworks first.

1. Visit their web sites...find whether they have IMG as current residents. If they don't have any IMG, then I think you will waste your money by applying there.
2. If you find IMG there, then may be you have a good chance to be considered there.
3. I think pathology is currently becoming more interesting for American Graduates. So, IM may be easier to get. But again you can try wisely.
