Hi everyone
I did participate in the 2007 match. Applied to about a 100 programs, had 2 interviews in Internal Medicine, and did not match. And This week, I was contacted by one of the programs, where I interviewed for a 2nd interview and today they have offered me a position. The problem is, I need a visa and the position is being offered on the condition, that I will take care of the visa issue and be able to start work on August 1st 2007. If i can't start on August 1st, I will forfeit the position. I am currently in the US on a H4, but it seems almost impossible to be able to get the visa in such a short time.
This is so so... depressing.
Any advise.
Thanks.

Congrats!
I don't know much about this but i would immediately contact an immigration lawyer... they will have the advice you need...
if you are being offered a job, then shouldn't they sponsor your work visa?

Hi,

well it a good thing that u did get a spot so congratulations, but I was under the impression that you know it was suppose to be the match and nrmp stuff for that. also given that it is after the start date may be since it's a Im or someother program they had a lot of guys who couldn't or didnt make it so in a haste trying to fill up their spot. And you know they put u in a sopt and want you to do everything by your self to get into a program that they couldn't fill so it's kinda "hand's up" attitiude on their part unless they gave u a good reason.

I dont mean to discourage you or sometin but it seems like this to me and they should atleast offer to help you out with the visa issue since it's they who are asking you this late.

Good luck

nik, congratulations...

If you really want this, gwt a lawyer as Cocacola posted and get the thing done, you can pay for a fee to get the visa in 2 weeks, seriously..., you just need the a letter from the program...

I think the most important point is to analize if you really want to get trained in that program?..., if you liked the program when you went for interview and you know "decent" or "good" people are running it (taking in terms of morality and personality) go for it!..., I don´t know the details but this action that they´re doing doesn´t seem completetly right... as kaka posted, if this is their "welcome", what can you wait for later?..., again I don´t know the details..., have in mind that you´re gonna spend a x number of years with them...

Overall I think it´s a great opportunity, grab it if you can..., it´s what you have now and nobody knows what the future will bring...

Grab it and do all you can to get the visa. As you said you applied to 100 pgms and received only two interviews. Regardless good or bad about this program, if you want to change programs next year, you have the 1 year experience, and that counts.

hello erveryone
Thanks for the advise.
The program is a IMG dominated program in Michigan but a good one and I liked it when i interviewed there. They told me that they had applied for additional positions which were granted just last week.
I have met with an attorney today ,but you can'tapply for H1, without the state license. Anyway I have decided to go ahead and apply for the license and see what happens thereon
So good news..........we have some additional positions for next year about 5.... I think,
Pray for me and good luck to all of us.

Hi, nik, Good Luck to you.

But is it possible to get the license without residency training in Michigan? I thought only after at least 2 years of post-graduate training could a license be issued.
