i have a pretty silly question abt how to go about the ccs cases... havent had any clinical experience so need someone to answer them..please help. For a STABLE patient in the OFFICE setting, with an apparently non-emergent condition, we order ROUTINE tests... now once the tests are ordered, should we 1. send the patient home (change the location)? 2. ... with an appointment scheduled after ALL the ordered test reports are available, or after the FIRST available test? i know that it all depends on the disease and presentation- but still, considering a totally stable patient with a very benign condition- say, alzheimer's disease, or fatigue... 3. what if the test results are to be reported on the same day ( day 1), but after 3-4 hours of the patient presentation? should the patient be sent home without reviewing the test results the same day? please answer and oblige.

if you see that test results are going to be available in 3-4 hours you can send the patient home after reviewing the results but any major decision will be made with the next days results then it is better that patient be sent home,if you have seen the A&E rooms in US hospitals you will understand what I mean, overall it is better to call the next day in non emergent cases to review the results,ok keep practicing GL

thank you vista, for ur prompt reply... i hope the silliness of my que doesnt annoy u :P just began practising..and am all confused let me just make sure that i got it right, with a related question- in the UW case of normal pregnancy , they order all the required tests- cbc, bld group and type, urine tests. hepatitis and rubella and syphilis serology etc etc, with vitamins and all, and call for follow up after 4 weeks.... ( a few test results are on day 1 and a few others on day 2) should i call the patient on the next day with all the results, in that case? or should i go thru the test results on the next f/u visit? also, should i opt for 'change location' to home first and THEN schedule the appointment? or schedule the appointment first? when i tried to schedule an apointment after 4 weeks, the location changed to home on its own... would i lose points if i went that way????? thank u so much for ur reply....
