i failed my step 1 and im completely devastated. im worried about not making it for the match in 2008 and the thought of being out of school for so long. Its now July, and im trying to do all my exams. Need some encouragement and a plan B thank you. And if i can do it what is the best strategy.

hey there. first tell yourself that failing step 1 is NOT the end of the world. it's a setback certainly, one that you are meant to overcome. and you CAN do it. regarding giving your steps, you mentioned match 08. even if you had cleared step 1, how likely was it that you could have made the other steps in time as well. will you have had enough time to prepare adequately and received results in time for applications to be sent out?[in slightly over 2 months now] or have you already appeared for one or more of the others? if you are yet to appear for the remaining steps too, you may feel much better and more equipped if you decide to go for match 09. lastly, it feels like you're in a dark place right now. it's time to light a candle. only you can do it. others have made it out of where you are right now, and have been very successful after that. also, you have the chance to prepare a second time, avoiding the mistakes you made the first time around. your score next time can be way better than what you would have achieved if you had passed this attempt. you are NOT alone. good luck.

Paheli is right! and also - Focus on your exams! "being out of school" is not a dire circumstance. people in the US and also elsewhere, i suppose, take a whole year break from school and go roaming around the world, or skiing in europe, or wildlife safari in africa. life has so much to enrich your personality that you will feel - what 1 year, my whole lifetime is not enough to see what life has to offer. anyways philosophy apart, my best friend failed in step 2, gave it again, and is now doing residency in boston. so things don't just end with failing an exam. it will be only a minor setback, chalk a detour around it, and plan your future.
