could anyone plz tell me this-if we r allowed to use/does it seem appropiate to use words like cancer, endoscopy, spinal tap and arthrocentesis.............explaining the meaning of these, during patient encounter.
i am confused becoz, before i began my CS study i went to this kaplan session(open house) which said never use-CA,LP,endoscopy words.......say things that r not frightening.but am begining to see cases where they r necessary.

hi smal, if necessary i wud use those words but before the SP asks the meaning, explain him what it means.
but could we just not tell him that you need to do a few tests before yu can say anything-this is for LP and arthrocentesis.
and for colonoscopy just say the word and explain the meaning to him before he asks himself(a friend told this to me who just cleared his exam and he went to kaplan too and it sounded reasonable to me and this is what FA says too).
for cancer, if the patient asks about himself, tell him it is one of the possibilities but that does not mean he has cancer. yu need to do a couple of tests before yu can say anything for sure.
hope this helped.
