i just came across this piece of info regarding the J1 visa when applying from canada.it says that canadian citizens and PR holders,if matched, are supposed to clear their MCCE if they want to get a J1 visa.i am a PR holder and would naturally apply for a J1 from canada.i just wanted to ask if this is true and if anyone out here has been in the same situation.

I heard it somewhere too. I thought for J1 you need a letter from the country where you applied. and if you want a letter from Canada, you need to pass mccee. i did it anyway. it is not hard. the problem is they only offer it twice a year.

Hi there: Yes, you'll required "statement of need" in order to go for J-1 visa. MCCEE is offered 3 times a year, January, May and September of each year so if you want to go for match 2008, you will have to take that in January and application deadline would be early September. You cannot take the September exam as the app. deadline is already gone.........They only ask very basic clinical knowledge in the exam and it is really easy. People read Toronto Notes and/or Kaplan Notes -Step 2 CK..... You have to take it as acc. to seniors, canada really has a strict policy on exchange visitor visas............. BOL.....

yes cs-usmle is right...You have to get the "letter of need"(NOC)in order to get JI and for this Ministry of Health require you to pass MCCEE..
