Hi Arlete, supermom, now I know what you are up to-preparing for CS...Are you planning to obtain some clinic experience here in the states? Best wishes to you.

Hey arlete it is the first time that I write a few lines in your post and i just wanted to say Congratulations for such a nice score and to ask you to stay posted because you are such as inspiration not only as a doctor but also as a complete woman. I am married with no kids for now but if I give up to fight against time for match 08 I would love to say: another mom here!!!!

njcjzy: Actually, I am studying for step 3 for now, because I'll study for CS in January and first two weeks of February (good excuse for playing doctor with hubby, uh?). I already did three weeks of observership, and worked as an EKG/holter/pacemaker and ICDs technician for 20 months, I hope that will count in my favor. Got three amazing LOR there. I am thinking about getting some CME credits once I'm done with step 3, next year. Ivonne: Just follow your heart, and good luck! Keep us posted...

starmoon You mean NBME? Only if you have time to study your weak areas. If you don't have time, there's no point on doing it. I had 2 questions from NBME tests in step 1, and none in step2.

Arlete, CONGRATULATIONS on the wonderful score you got in step2 CK. Your hardwork and perseverance has paid you back, I feel encouraged by reading your step2 CK exam experience. Please, could you tell me the materials you used for your preparation in step2 CK? I gave step1 on 31 July. August I did not study waiting for results and now (September) getting back to study for step2. I passed Step1. Do you think one month gap of not starting studing for step2 right after step1 is harmful? Any suggestions for step2 exam preparation, I will highly appreciate. Do I need to revise any materials from step1? Thanks a lot.

I had a notebook for step 1 that I read one week before step 2, but I don't think one really needs to go back to it. I did not study for about 6 weeks between the tests, don't worry, our memory is not that bad (yet!). I watched Kaplan DVDs: Fischer's, psych, gynecology, obstetrics. The others were too boring for me. I studied the Lecture Notes, did Kaplan q-bank and usmleworld, read First Aid just to refresh everything at the end. Did another notebook for step 2 while studying, read it during the last week. My notebooks had a lot of short information, one line maximum, for example: Beck's triad = hypotension + JVD + muffled heart sounds.

Thank you, LilInjnDatCould... Sometimes I feel very discourage and insecure by the fact I've graduated so long ago (and I can never change that), so it's always nice to hear "congrats" for reaching this good score. It really warms my heart and gives me hope some day somebody will consider it more important than my graduation date. I am sure I'll be able to be a great doctor again, if only I have the chance. Thank you!

And I really hope reading my history makes people think "if she did it, I can do it too!", because I believe anybody who finished Medical College IS, in fact, a champion.

Chiqui, thanks so much for your advises... I will apply them! My baby is a month old now, so I´ll be back to study hopefully... I am almost getting her schedule, she eats every 3 hours usually, except for the afternoon when she seems to be eating all the time. BF was so hard at the beggining but now is so much better. I agree on the thread... lets make it :d... probably in the support forum, right? Thank u sooo much!

Hi Allymd. Wow - a month has gone by already! Congratulations. You are now a veteran. Sounds like she "bunches up" her feedings in the afternoons - in theory, babies that do that sleep longer hours at night. Its all good. I love BFing, and in terms of studying, the more they BF the more you can study. I started the thread, Steps and Babies, in the Support Forum. I almost hate doing it because this thread was so successful, but maybe if the label gives people a fair warning we can talk a little more about stuff like pregnancy and BF without grossing people out. Arlete - hope you join us over there - you seem to have mastered some tricks of the trade and managed to get excellent exam scores at the same time!

Hi, dr19, thank you... I hope you are Brazilian, because I sent you a big message in Portuguese! Anyway, from what I've heard, chances for IMGs doctors are way better in USA... Good luck!

Dr19-I have a couple of friends from latin america that got a visa for Canada. They moved to Montreal and have been going through the exam process. Its been tough for them, but they are almost finished with their exams. If that is the opportunity that opens up for you, then that is the oportunity you must grab. Good luck.
