hi, nice to know you are still celebrating.

i guess i shouldn't be venting my feelings here, spoiling it all, but then i really felt i had to tell you abt my step 2....

well, at this moment i'm not very sure of what i did right and what i did wrong. is that a good frame of mind to be in...? looks like it is . i mean, after step 1 i was feeling good. now i'm doubtful. worried. sometimes i feel i did them right, sometimes i feel i didn't get them right. i'm in a fix. there just doesn't seem to be any clear answer to many of the questions. is this the usual feeling with all who get through....?

Arlete, you rock!!! I've read your posts before, but didn't know all the "circumstantial" stuff around you. The sacrifice you are making today, will not go unappreciated, both hubby and kids will learn from it and when they grow, they will respect you even more. You'll see. I wish you a fantastic future!!! btw, how long did you studied for CK? Best of lucks!!! smiling face

Thank you, GMBO, I hope the angels say "amen" to that!

6 months.

I really admire your determination and your achievement so far. I guess we are similar age, but you are way too brave and smart than I am. Any way, treat you as my role model. Will work hard for this. Hope can get similar score.

Are you targeting 2008 match? Best of luck!winkwink

njcjzy:

Thank you... I am 37 years old.

I am targeting 2009 match. I can't count on my husband taking care of the kids at night before that. And it's going to be better because they will be able to take a shower, brush teeth by themselves. My old one is even doing dishes already!

Good luck to you, as you've seen, it is possible, though not easy!

Same here. Want to finish the exams by next Feb and be a real good mom for a year. Then dash to the tough years of residency.
Which country are you from?
I know you will get a wonderful residency program. Best wishes.smiling face

  #90

Maybe after all these, I can learn from you how to educate, descipline and love my kids. They are just too naughty recently. wink

  #91

I'm from Brazil. Thanks for the good whishes!

Loving our kids is very easy and spontaneous, but each of us have different ways of demonstrating and applying the love. So that's already done. Educate and discipline? Veeeery difficult! Not only because you have to say the same thing 300 times a day, you feel deceptionated when you thought they had already learned or overgrown that habit (NOT YET!), but because all the other mothers are cooler than you on their eyes. You can't be popular, you have to be a mother! Sometimes you question if you are too strict (and sending them straihgt to therapy at 16), sometimes you are afraid you are too soft (and raising a little dictator).

Anyway, recently I read in a magazine that raising kids is like planting from an envelop of seeds that has no picture, so you are not very sure what is going to grow. I thought that is so true! So we can not have big expectancies (so we don't demand too much), just to pray and do our best for them to be honest, good people and to value what we do, and maybe, with luck, not have our worst defects, maybe be better than us...

I hope you have a good husband to help you, it makes all the difference in the world...

Kisses.wink

Thanks. I could not agree you more. While they grow up, we are growing up too as more mature, loving mom.

Best wishes to you, great mom. I solute to you and look up to you. (By the way, I am from China). smiling facesmiling face

Niiice... So different and exotic! But it must be more challenging for you than it is for me to come to USA, the difference between the two countries and cultures must be greater than between USA and Brazil. So now I admire you, too... Anyway, moms are the same and speak the same language everywhere, don't we?

Good luck to you too, in both so precious carreers you have! I am rooting for you.nod

  #95

Thanks, artele, for your understanding and praising. Will work hard for both.wink

GOGETA:

Whatever I can do to help you, count on me.

In Brazil they don't care about your training, as long as you pass the specialty board, which is reaaaaaally hard to pass (I would say thrice as hard as USMLE step 1). So my training was: 1 year of general cardiology, two of arrhythmias and pacemaker, I passed the cardiology board, voilá! I am a board certified cardiologist in Brazil, and my subspecialty is arrhythmias and pacemaker. But I studied and worked as a staff member at what I think is the best cardiology hospital in Latin America, so don't take it lightly. And I worked five more years in Brazil before moving to this blessed country.

The reason Brazilian surgeons are good and famous is that very early, even during the college years, students start participating in surgeries and being very active on them. So, during the first year of residency, they are already doing procedures that take many years for residents in other countries to do. Brazil does not have (yet) the litigation we have in USA, so as long as you have good supervision, you may perform many procedures, even more complicated ones. Of course, we train in dogs and everything first. But we get there sooner, for sure.

What country is yours?

I studied for step 2 CK during 6 months, but if you are able to dedicate exclusively, I think 4 months are enough. If you sit for it right after passing step 1, it helps a lot.
