Hi guys

firs thanks to God, thanks to my wife, my family, thanks to this forum, the csprotocol.blogspot.com, thanks to UW, and FA books.

Some background:

I am IMG, 37 yo, married+4, my younger two sons twins, 9 mo, I am Pediatrician, I finished Medical school 12 y ago.

I did step 1, 2CK 7 years ago, I did 2CS in Philli, at April.

I studied for 6 months, yes! 6 months, why? if you readed the background you already undrestood. I studied 1-2 hour / day, not every day, I had to studied at morning, by 4.5-6.5 am (when the house was quiet, before the work).

I studied twice every case of the FA and UW, the first 2 month I did them imaging that the patients was in front of me and talking alone, then I began to practice in the ninghs with my wife, sometimes Iwas talking alone because my wiife felt asleep during the physical exam!!!.

I try to practice with my wife at leas once every case from this two sources.

About my english, you can assess it just reading that post, but I can said I improved a lot my english in those 4 months and even before.
How? Long before the exam a began to listen and listen just english. for example only bbc in the car, after I began to download postcasts in english (English as a second lenguage ESL podcast, radio shows of physicians talking abount a lot of medicine topics, a radio show of a psychologist where poeople call it was very helpfull to ear telphone conversations and counseling technics).
I came to Philli 4 days before the exam to pass the jetlag, and I choose to stay in a Bed and breakfast home, where I began to warm my tonge before the exam which the owner of this house.

I tried to get through those forums every detail about the day of the exam in order to alliviate the anxiety of the exam day.
It was very important for me to know what happen before tha examination began: You came at 8.5 am, you will get into a waiting room after you give your ID, then you will receive a table with blank sheets for every case and a pen, then you will get explanations about the exam and you will see a video.

Almost every case, maybe two of them were in the FA or UW, also the other two cases were not hard. I think I didn't finished, perhaps 4 cases, I did in every case the protocol I learn in this forum and in the blog a mentioned above, I mean, knock the door, ask permission to enter, introduce myself, and so on, of course wash my hands, ask permission before the physical ex., explain what I am doing, PAMHUGS, closure, DD, counseling, work up. Is very important to do those things automatic. The physical ex, have to be automatic, specially the neurologic one.

To finish, I wrote all this to tell to everyone out there, nothing is impossible, you just have to study for Step CS, you have to do a commitment, set the time, make a study plan, and practice, practice, and practice.

Good luck every one, Please take it easy, if you can not get this match program you will get the next one, in the midtime may be you will get something else good for you.

Thanks,,

Arlete, In the past there was a limit, since step 2CS, those who completed step 1-2 in a period of 7 years (before the existence of step 2CS) have the oportunity to complete the step2CS and complete the requirements for the certification.

Other tip, for those whom are nervous or anxious before exams like this, I recommend to practice meditation. During meditation you can visualize your self coming to the test center, performing the exam. Believe me this is a very helpfull technique to success, to get down anxiety and of course performing better. When you are very familiar to some situation you just do the things automatic without tension.
When you do meditation you begin to be famliar to the situation you are imaging during meditation.

Congratulation.

I am an older IMG. (Getting M.D. In 1988). Passed the Step I three month ago. (Score 229/95). This increases my confidence to go through the journey of USMLE.

However, the hardest challenge to me is the communication skill in English. I am from the country in the east of Asia. Two decades ago, English was not popular there. I didn't build up the strong foundation of English Language, in particular, I have big problem on the pronounciation.

While reading your post, I am impressed by " fter I began to download postcasts in english (English as a second lenguage ESL podcast, radio shows of physicians talking abount a lot of medicine topics, a radio show of a psychologist where poeople call it was very helpfull to ear telphone conversations and counseling technics). "

Would you please tell me how to find those resources you mentioned above.

Many thanks.
