Hey you all, Sorry wasnt active for a while I was out. I was just going thru, to see what i'd missed and I have to say I thought I was the only one who was thinking bout applying for backup. Guys I have to say there are sometime's that I think I should and the other time's I shouldn't coz that's gonna be some extra greens right there. Anyways I sent in a medicl recomendation at the last minute and I guess my applications will go out by mid september. It's been a year since I started preparing for the Step 1, basically getting into the whole residency bit and now it's finally here and I'm gettin so nervous. Another thing I called a few programs, asked them about their requirements ( I dont remember which ones, I have them written somewhere so i'll probably put them up later) and almost everyone's so nice and they all said that "Yes, we do accept foreign graduates" and some of them had residents in their preliem or categorical programs...... ] I dont know if they were just being polite or if it was true but all this while hearing people say that Surgery is tough I dont know what to think anymore.................... I hope all of us here are there for each other throuout the match and I'll definitly be putting up anytin I feel is usefull as soon as i'd be gettin them.

You look way ahead in the league quaidian. And confident too, you've applied to only 30 programs. So what kind of a visa you on or do you have a green card ???? Nice of you to share.

Hey I just needed to ask if you thought applying on September 14th will be too late to get a good turn out for interviews. I am a Ross Student and have double 99's on USMLE 1 and 2ck as well as straight A's... My LORs will not be transmitted for about three days from ECFMG... I would appreciate any thoughts... I had a death in the family and did not have the time to complete all the application materials or personal statement until today. I look forward to your replies. thanks!

hey all. i have been incommunicado for a variety of reasons. mum just went home. she had major surgery for cancer and chemo too so i was busy taking care of her. i did apply last year but i was late and i had incomplete documents. by the deadline of most programs, i had steps 1 and 2 results but i had not done cs. i did not research much about the programs last year cos i did not ahve the time but it appears like the programs in surg like img's to be ecfmg certified by the time of application. i am hoping this year will be better for me cos i have everthing they require. i will be putting in my aplications tomorrow. i have also changed my mind about im and fm. i am not applying to them. i cannot handle being in those specialties. i will rather return to my home country than take them. everyone however tells me that: 1. you can work in the united states with a fellowship without having to do residency if you are board certified in your home country. university teaching hospitals may employ you or a private place. trouble is you are stuck with tehm. you cannot change jobs easily without residency. i have met about 6 surgeons like that. they are doing very very well. 2. if you are really desperate, then take whatever specialty you get and hope to change in year 2. there is a 25% drop out rate in gen surg in year 2 so something will open up 3.if you cannot change in year 2, then complete that residency and then go on to start surgery at teh end of that residency. so you are looking at 9yrs from today of achieving your dream of being a surgeon in teh united states.... i am not so young anymore. 4.do a fellowship in surgery, and hope they like you at that institution and they offer you categorical yr 1 or 2 the following year. so folks, i wish us all the best this year and may all our dreams come true quickly.

Wow.....isn't it a little early to be receiving interviews 2 weeks after the start of the application season? My impression was that programs wait until end of Oct to give out i/v for FMGs. Looks like this is going to be one helluva match cycle...GL folks!
