ok i have a lot of confusion about this..

which is the FIRST INVESTIGATION when a urine stone is suspected and which is the BEST INVESTIGATION..

i have seen different answers to both of these in different question banks.. can someone settle it for the final here..

i believe the first test is abdominal plain x ray..
and that the best test is helical (spiral) ct scan..

correct me if i am wrong and pls explain.. thanks..

UA ......> first inv

  #3

1st---> UA

2nd----> male---> Spiral CT

Female----->not pregnant----> spiral CT

Pregnant-----> US

3rd is ttt according to site & size

if equals or less than 5mm fluids (2 L/day) + Analgesics

Bigger is managed accordingly.

Don't want to be confusing, but I had a kidney stone 3 years ago, that was removed in one of the US university comprehensive clinic.
First test at family clinic was UA, but it may not be informal if colic wasn't at least several days before... They look for RBS and protein...
Second test was plain abdominal x-ray, and they got the stone because it was calcium oxalate... But they conformed stone not by CT but by contrast KUB (kidney-ureter-bladder) x-ray... I guess KUB gives more info on the topography of the stone as well as obstructive dilation of calices and ureter... And it is much faster and cheaper than CT....
Again, it was in American clinic.
