Wht did u understand out of the Question Can u Plz Tells us that so we can understand wht part of the concept u didnt understand. As a General Rule Potassium Flow Always results in its Initial Efflux when an AP is initiated Otherwise When Sodium and Ca Channels r open they dont go out of th ecell they go inside the cell. After the AP Na/K+ ATPase recorrects the Ion Concerntration of the Cell Across the Membrane.

Thanks new_n_lost for your reply. I've had a little more readings, and came down to this... 1) resting membrane pot = -70 2) K+ equilibrium pot = -80 3) so when channel is open, K+ tries to go out to make the cell more negative (thus closer to its own EP= -80) I was confused with Cl- then which has similar EP, but seems that "it doesn't play an important role in membrane potential" for some reason. (UW explanation)

hi why cl not act as K coz k follow its conc gradient as u know k high in conc inside cell whch is opposite in cl this s what called electrochemical equiliprium means not charge only but chemical conc also has effect ..hope i am right if am wrong plz tell me

yes hisham ur right. to add to it i wud say chemical equilibrium plays a major role in any ions movement, followed by elecrical equilibrium, as electric potential can be influenced by diff ions with same electric charge.let me know is i m wrong
