Hi friends,
yes, many of you do not know that I gave my step 1 on the 21st. I wanted to post my exam experience after I got the score. But now I am anxious about it and this is the only place where I can get support and comfort and hence decided to let you all know what I have been going thru.I do not know what to say about the exam. cos many qns were tough and in between there were some one liners which were very easy. So overall I can just say that the exam is doable. I felt all the blocks were equally tough and easy, except for the 4th block which was a little more difficult than the rest.
I had adjusted to the environment and my heart rate was back to normal by the end of about 25th qn in the first block. Most of the qns were like... you know it, but you still have to think cos they have asked you something else in a twisted manner. I guess if your concepts are right then you are all ready to go.
I had 10 mins in each block to get back and review all the qns. I have spent about 1 and a half year to prepare for this exam, I have been lazy and stupid hence took a long time to prepare for it. I think one does not need this much time if one is determined , dedicated and regular ( unlike me ). I was at the peak of my studies when my husband got frustarted since he thought I was well prepared and I thought I was not and hence made me take step2 CS since he thought like this I wont take any of the steps in this life time. I was freaking out about my results of step 2 CS and hence did not study at all till I got the result, that was about 2 months. And I passed, but I lost touch of the step1 subjects, started to feel low again. then after a couple of months again my husband made me take NBME 3 where I scored 410 which made me more depressed, left everything and started volunteering in a lab which was going well. So wasted $700 once for the step1. Then when the second eligibility period was going to expire realised I have to somehow start on these books again, so extended the eligibility period and stoped going to the lab and started studying and doing qns, took NBME 2 about 2 days before the exam and scored 600 on it, was happy but was also tensed, was very anxious on the day of the exam but dont have any feeling about how the exam went. Now whoever knew that I was going to take step1 has started asking me how it went and thats freaking me out...God I dont want to fail in this exam..I have wasted so much time and money I can not afford to fail or even get a low score. I have no idea how I am going to live thru the days till I get my result , I guess its going to be very very difficult. Guys what do you think?

HI DOC179, NBME 600 I THINK U SHOULD NOT HAVE TO WORRY AT ALL....evry body who comes out of this exam feel same way so just relax and pray...iam sure u ahve done well ..
let me ask u one think what is most imp in maing the concept...thanks

Good luck in your score I am sure you do fine
comparing the difeculty of NBME 2 and the actual exam, because most of others saying NBME is too easy than actual test is that true? finally did you have Audio/Vedio questions?

thanx, I think Kaplan has most of the concepts and for pathology pls read Goljan, he is very good. and I guess have study partner and discuss, whenever there is something you do not know, pls search and find out the answer, cos in the exam I felt they do test your overall knowledge in medicine, I mean they do ask you some of the stuff, sometimes basics known to only those who have been studying regularly and have been active in this field. If you have not been active , just try to solve all the doubts you have in any of the topics.
yes I do feel that the NBME was more easier than the actual exam, but I dont remember how NBME 3 was like since its been really a long time I have taken it and I have not taken NBME 4. No video/audio in the exam.

GL in your score, will be the best am sure .
In between to keep stress out, you can start post your study prep with what you have use in deatail then with duration of the study in detail with break without deatil, just say 3 mo break , no study , may say lab volunteer... that still in med field keep in touch , that's good .
So Cs can pass without st 2 study at all , so can say Cs study , experince too here or at Cs, cause it is in st 1 study time .
Anyhow, GL in the score, celebrate, pass Cs, done st 1 , v. good, only need st 2 for 2008 match .

I know you will score atleast 230s! I just know it, trust me on this one, so i'd just say use your time wise right now, whatever that is. I dont say it easily, but you are one smart girl !

well I did my kaplan coaching in 2005 then did not study for about 5-6 months , got a really good study partner in jan 2006 and started studying really good, then in july took CS and passed but again stopped studying after the CS exam till jan 07 thats when I volunteered in the research lab. then started to study again from last week of jan or in Feb till june, but that was also not very serious study. Did Kaplan and Goljan, did not do anything else, did Kaplan Q bank may be just 60 % of it, did about 20% of UW which I got from a very good friend of mine. was active in this forum, did most of teh qns posted in this forum. took NBME forms as mentioned above and took the exam.
For step2 CS did not study much for it, as I was into step 1 so much, did not want to switch to a different set of mind, used to do some DDs and chat with my friends and browse this forum all day but most of my preparation for step 2 CS for in the last 5 days when I practiced the cases on my husband, he is a very good critique, irritated me very much, kept picking on my mistakes, but I must confess its cos of him I passed step 2 CS and cos of him I took the step 1 exam...he has been very supportive and friends, by God's grace I have a few wonderful friends, whose honest suggestions and advices are still helping me and supporting me. especially my husband, swathi, po, NNL, Luckyall, silver ..whether I fail or pass I appreciate your support , good advices, care and help..you guys have been very nice to me, and most of all thank you so much for tolerating me.

I totally understand your situation when you said you were not well-prepared cause this whole morning I did nothing, butbusy with flying thoughts not related to the exam at all. My test will be on July 27. I am too worried about that, and I could not concentrate. It is so good to know I am not alone here. I think I have to study really hard for these 30 days.
I bet you will get an amazing score. Let us know the good news.

Thanx everyone, yeah...Feyza everyone is gonna say that, I know and may be thats the reason why I am not feeling as low as I was when I started this thread. But even though everyone gonna say the same, it stille adds up confidence. But whatever .... I am with you especially in this wait Feyza. By the way I hear that the results are out on the 2nd or 3rd wednesday after the exam...do you know exactly when? My exam was on 21st, thats one week tomorrow, I know that your exam was also on 21st and I kept saying to myself that there is a person with you somewhere facing the same exam right now. Hmmm that was quite a relief.
njcjzy...I used to do the same thing, knew I had lots to study but used to sit and stare at the roof and think about everything else except the exam and my husband used to say you think more than you study. Thats so true. Dont waste your time like that, if you are not in a mood to study then atleast do qns and go thru the explanation, or visit this forum do qns here, make friends and talk with them, since the friends are going to be from this forum , most likely you will end up talking about the exam or discussing something which is what you need, support and friends who motivate you. its good see ppl coming up saying mine is the same story, makes feel better, makes me feel hmmm I am not alone...but then friends thats a very bad habit, we should get over this and try to be more determined and dedicated..I hope whenever it is that I am going to take the exam next, God help me get over my weaknesses and God help you all get over yours too.

Thanx for the wishes guys, I am not freaking out anymore atleast not today . Feyza 11 and 18 seem so far ahead  anyway, I have already started to visit the ECFMG website, I know that they would not say anything until they get my result but then I thought they might atleast show the date when I took my exam, they dont even say that...anyway...looks like they will update everything only after they get the score report. 18 more days...dont even want to think about how to be calm for those many days...I hate this wait..

My husband says I should start studying for step 2 CK, God I really do not know how, I keep thinking about step 1 whenever I try to study for CK, keep thinking what if I dont pass and I will have to go back to those books again, I just feel I can not focus completely on CK until I get my result for step 1, I know it will be like wasting a month, but somehow I can not take my mind off it. How about you Feyza? or you are done with CK as well? I just hope it just takes 11 days and not 18 for the result.
