ok guys, finally got around to having a look at the smashstep1 qn bank, courtesy of the freebie they were giving out last week.
the qns were very simple, and almost childishly phrased esp when compared to the complicated qns in kaplan and uw. those guys almost try, and often succeed in tricking you. but smash qns were so straightforward, that many did not even have a vignette. they were atraight recall type, taking us back to the early 90s usmle trend. anybody trying for that??! also the screen setup was uncannily similar to that of uw[ok can't blame them for that as they are trying to recreate FRED for us]
all said, it is good enough to practice your knowledge on when you're through with a subject. perhaps you could use it in the early phase of preps when all you want to do is solve more and more qns. you can go over to the big boys, uw and kaplan later. smash is also not that expensive. still, i'm glad i did not have to pay for it.

Paheli , I agree with you. These are good qs for the early stages of your prep. I was actually looking for this kind of qs. I attempted downloaded version of "big boys" at this stage of my prep and did not get anything out of it except being demoralized  .
I did only immuno qs from here and found these qs good for recall and practice.

paheli ... im doing some right now  cuz the free offer ends tomorrow ... i agree with almost every thing you said ... im afraid they are too short and some are too easy (i just tried biochem) ...  some of the qs are OK but i wouldnt want to be fooled by these qs thinking that the real thing would be similar ! ... as unique said theyre good for early revisions ...

haha, p4a99, that's the reason why i did it tonight as well. actually i forgot all about it, and then it hit me that tomorrow's the last day. but, never let a free thing go, i said. and i actually solved 50 physio, unique. very basic stuff.

Thank you paheli for convaying my voice to moderator's ears  . I am glad the problem is fixed and I can post again.
Yeah, it is very basic stuff they ask on smashstep1 but I am in my baby steps and have problems with recalling even this simple stuff  .

Have you done all of the Smashstep1 questions? I thought many of the pathology and physiology questions were quite good. Question stems on the actual Step 1 exam are not that long. I have heard that the UW Step 1 question stems are more like Step 2. Kaplan still dominates the market, but it is nice to see some other sources of questions available.

sorry study X2. the offer itself expired like 2 days back, but the limited free subscriptions themselves were exhausted within a few hrs of being offered!
