A kidney biopsy specimen taken from a pt with acute glomerulonephritis and stained with fluorescein-conjugated anti-human IgG antibody would probably show

A) No fluorescence

B)Uniform fluorescence of the glomerular basement membrane

C) Patchy, irregular fluorescence of the glomerular basement membrane

D) Fluorescent B cells

E) Fluorescent macrophages

Explain your answer for Pete's sake!

I chose this cos Choices A, D, E dont Fit the Acute GN While Choice B is characteristic for Anti-GBM disease Linear Pattern. the Only choice which gives off a lumpy-bumpy/ granular appearence is choice C

Accumulations of immune complexes cause AGN. That’s why you get a patchy, irregular fluorescence pattern as the dye is seen on each accumulated group of complex.

B is more suited for Goodpasture bc the AB specifically target the basement membrane.

not one of the most difficult ones......
anyone can rule out......A,D,E
not at all related to the disease....
B and C......
it has to be C......irregular...patchy

Sure sure, but the studying process is a not a guessing game, that you can do at the exam. 50% chance to get things right is not good enough. Its very important that you know the CAUSATION of AGN in order to get why C is correct and B is not.
