i am fmg 80/79/pass/gc holder/2001 graduate/ one US lor from indian doctor....applied to 140 programs ...had 5 interviews in 2007 match but did not match...now preparing for step 3 and starting externship in IM for 3 months.i have 3 questions for the 2008 match ??
1) is it strongly advised to take step 3 even if i am a green card holder?
2)what else can i improve other than doing externship and getting 2 US lors this year??
3) in which specialities should i apply and in which states ??

Now coming to your question, I would say the best thing you can do now is Externship...nothing better than that...YOu are right...Step 3 is more imp for people who require H1 visa...but if you can do the externship and prepare for step 3 too both at the same time that will be great. However for you Externship is more imp now.

I have heard FM is probably the easiest, Psych second and Im is also possible. Northeastern states like Ny, NJ have more IMG friendly hospitals hence more opportunities.

Short answers:
1) NO
2) Find somebody who has connections to Program Directors
3) FM (because there are more positions than applicants), IM (because you are doing externship in this field). Any State where do you want to live.
