Hi, I have a query regarding PE in a patient with RUQ pain. Suppose the patient c/o of tenderness on superficial palpation do we still look for murphy's sign and liver enlargement and liver span. Thanks n good luck..

yes.. provided you dont palpate so hard that the patient screams.. atleast try.. Tell the patient.. I am going to press slightly deeper to check for a few signs that can tell me more about your medical problem, it may be uncomfortable. If you cant tolerate just ask me to stop and I will stop immediately. Is that okay? ..... thankyou This should atleast tell the examiner that u were trying to perform a thorough exam but were considerate of patient's discomfort. Mention in your pt. Note also. Good Luck
