Im almost done with my first read of biochem. and was plannig on going next to Lippincott to reinforce and widen my scope on the subject but i wanted to know your opinion on these following issues: 1. should i read the things that are not covered by Kaplan so atleast i know something about it if it shows up on the exam? or thats a waste of time? 2. or should i go over the topics covered by Kaplan and FA in Lippincott so i get a better grasp on the board relevant facts? ... pleast let me know what you think (1), (2) or forget the whole text book thing! ... thanks for your time ... Note: i posted this here cuz the biochem. forum is hounted ...

i haven't taken the exam yet so u may or may not want to take my opinion into consideration.... i personally thought goin thru lipp biochem was a waste of time for me, it was way too detailed, took too long & for some reason i didn't get anything out of it, though i read frm cover to cover....i found that kaplan's biochem covered everything & explained well that's my share

I doubt you need to know more that what is there on the Kaplan notes and FA.So unless u have time on your hands I'd say give it a rest and try and master the knowlegde you have gained from these 2 comperehensive sources. Good luck.

Input on how to use lippincott biochem.? You open the book, and you will find some little thing call letters, then you try to understand what those little things are trying to say to you. Go over all of the grafics and little comments on the side of what you cover in kaplan.

After reading lippincott, your the expert!!! I simply read the LN notes with the DVDs at the same time because the book has some gap that the lecturer tends to fill up (by the way he is good i recomend watching his lectures). Now after i have an idea about what the boards want me to know about biochem. i plan on going over the same topics from lippincott.... but now im reading FA to make sure from the topics that they want us to know well...

In Biochem Rate limiting Enzyme r the Key. When u r done with the First read make a List of the Rate Limiting Enyzmes and integrate them it will cover bulk of the Subject and then u can clincially co-relate them u will find it much easier in ur final revision.

you also need to know what will be the build up and the deficient if an enzyme is out.

the best input is that Lipp. Biochem book is not a review book ... it's actually a TEXTBOOK ! don't read it and waste your time the way i did. read Kaplan notes and if you happened to feel not sure about a topic, go to the index and skim the related information. infact if i had time i would go for Underground clinical vignettes ( biochemistry ), it's very good and they say that you almost can't get any clinical senario about biochem that is not mentioned in this book.
