Hi Bro and Gulls
My last post was way back but I always try to keep up with the forum.
Well once again I am sharing my happiness and joy with the forum.
By the Grace of God I passed and have no words to show my submission to him.
Following is brief tale of my CS quest
1-Center
Chicago and date was April 3 2007.
I think I got chicago by chance, originally I was to Scheduled to give it on 28 March Houston but Chicago 3 popped up all of sudden on 14 March so I took the chance .
2-Prep
Studied the month of March and failed to find any Practice Partner.So I made a dummy Partner with two Pillows.One pillow served as head and other one as ATP,while my old jeans kicked in as the lower limb.Well thats the best I can come up with.My family really laughed at me and for a few days they thought I have gone kukoooo .
3-Resources
UW and FA 2004 Version
4-Accomodation
Stayed with a family who was known to my family .
5-Exam Day
I had a 3 PM session so I woke up 12 in the afternoon I guess it was perfect.Reached test center at 2.30 and I was not early to my surprise.
Well my first shocker was when I was sitting in the waiting room, I was not wearing any tie while all other Males were having beautiful ties.I tried to put on the tie and I love it but on that day tension and adrenaline rush was so high I felt being strangulated by it so I decided not to wear it.But the mere thought of not having it made me even more tense .So I decided to wear my steth in neck to hide my short coming.
well orientation started I can sense and feel the tension and anxiety in the atmosphere and nearly had a panic attack.
Well it started and I felt like we all are sacrifice beings ready to be slaughtered by SPs.
Description
5 Sp break 4 Sp break 3 Sp and all over.I really got tired after 2 case and wished to have break after every 2 cases.As it was a Exam not a fairy tale where all my wishes would be granted so I have to bear it
It was just like going through Hell.Man It was tough .
Mistakes
1-In my first case as I entered the room my mouth became very dry due to sympathetic over drive .I was not able to speak to SP for 30 seconds and not to mention the constant sweating was there to give me the perfect shower. well I tried to overcome it as soon as I got my senses back.
2-Tried to shake hands with a person who had paralysis and joint pain.
I was running on autopilot and shaking hand was spontaneous .In both of these case as I put my hand forward to shake Sp didnt put their hand forward to shake so I had to withdraw my shake in Mid air .I am Glad I didnt touch them otherwise I would have been a goner.
3-In 1 Sp My steth tie really got me.As I was uncovering the pt back with my lft hand to hear the breath sound on back I failed to let go my rt hand that some how got stuck with the diaphragm due to rigor mortis and the sitch was like this my head behind pt head and my rt hand in pt front and rubber tubing of steth got to pt neck and Sp didnt like it So I had to apologize and Sp accepted.
4-Didnt Practice with a live Partner .
5-Took the exam really lightly .So my advice It is not a joke as it was before 15 july 2006 .They also have raised the passing scores in CIS AND SEP on all exams after 14 july this year as well so my advice to take it before 15 july 2007 as no one want to fall in those 8% of IMGs who would have passed otherwise.
6-Plenty of questions I didnt ask which I should have.
7-Did miss some PE
MY POSITIVES
which got me through
1-After the exam I prayed really hard with my heart.
2-Used digital doc advice and sentences to improve my CIS and SEP .Go to USMLETOMD.COM it is really good as it has things not mentioned in UW and FA.
3-Done all the basics in every case from introducing to draping to Closing.Closed and counseled all my case.
4-Showed empathy and respect to SP
5-Always addressed their concern and In history asked them thrice "Do you have any thing else to tell me".They usually told me every thing which I missed on my third time asking this beautiful question.This really saved me time and I was Out 1-2min Early in most of cases .
My Advice
PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE AND PRACTICE.In real exam you dont have the time to think bcoz its so fast.You need to develop your Instincts, reflexes and auto pilot mode for this exam.
Not to forget PRAY,PRAY,PRAY,PRAY and Pray .ALMIGHTY will definitely LISTEN and give you calmness of mind.
Use USMLETOMD.COM ,FA,UW.And try to give a thought to few abnormal and uncommon cases which people post in forum.As I got 2 of them and was cursing myself.
Always Listen to others but do what your instincts tell you to do as no one can help as much as you can help your self.Not to forget dont get too much involved in the forum as we all are each other competitors and I have seen so many crackpots giving foolish advices.
Above all is my subjective impression of exam and you all cant verify even I or others have passed or not so Pick the positives and leave the rubbish out.
