Does an MPH helps an old IMG to get a residency position in Family Medicine?

Hi oldkid, didn't know you were interested in fam med...

I guess the MPH doesn't hurt, specially if you did your emphazise on health promotion or health prevention during MPH, but if you wonder what would be better, and MPH or USCE, definatley USCE helps the most.

A professor of an US fam med residency told me that they want USCE because they want to know if you can handle and if you can fit in to the US system, doing an MPH doesn't say much about that.

Good luck, I know you are probably doing your exam in a couple of days so good luck!

Thanks a lot Novak. Does that mean I shouldn't go for MPH and rather do an observership?

hmmmm, can you do both?....observership are just a few hours a day, so maybe you can do both.

But if you are applying for this year match it doesn't make sence to start an MPH program, because you are not going to finish it, but if you are only going to try to get into an MPH program because you think that would help your CV then definately don't do that, better you concentrate on getting USCE or at list observership.

Well, at list that is what I think, anyone else?

Good luck olkid, glad to know you are done with step 1!!!

Novak thanks a lot for your help. No I am not applying for this years match. I have a Canadian PR and I will be moving there permanently in two years. I plan to finish my Steps before I am there and then while waiting for my passport for 3 years I intend to do MPH/MHA/MSc program and work there. Since, I am not sure if the US thing works out for me even after exams. But still, I am wondering if it will help me in getting residency in US if I try after 5 years from now? Canada is a dead place for IMGs, sadly.
