hi everyone
i just passed step3, i am so relieved. (i had an average score)
i just wanted to send out a few words for all who have step3 coming up.
as for preparation:
most important is first aid and UW, start with some review first and then do questions for practice. also make sure that you do these high priority materials as close to the test as possible.
i have also looked into the medicine part of the kaplan notes a little but i did not get very far because i am a slow learner and have never used kaplan before. but if you have the time to read it, i recommend it.
i did the kaplan Qbook completely. i recommend it but UW is more important.
if you feel like spending money for an additional question bank, go for the kaplan question bank. i did not do that though.
i hope that helps you a little.
i think if you passed the first steps and got this far, your chances of passing step3 are excellent, so dont worry too much.

Q-book:
i don't know, it takes for ever to go through it because it is a book and it has long comments etc. but i did it anyway. you score a little better compared to UW. i have no idea if it really helped me with the test. i did it because i did not want to do the online kaplan question bank and that way i did at least some kaplan questions and not just UW. it also has one great advantage compared to any online question bank: you can do it anytime anywhere, i liked sitting outside in the garden when i did the Q-book.
UW:
i spend about 2 to 3 weeks doing th questions and another week os so doing the ccs.
first aid:
i don't really know how long i studied with this because i tryed to record the book by reading it to my computer and then making mp3 out of it, i listened to the mp3 every time i went jogging. the problem is it took me for ever to record it and in the end i only recorded about one third of it and then i ran out of time.
me scores for step2 were definitively below average. i have to say that i prepared completely different for it though. i only prepared with the pretest question books. i did not use any online question bank or any other common material, not even first aid. may be that was wrong and i should have done it different.
but as i said before, if you passed all the other steps, why should you fail this time? it is not harder or easier than the other steps, it is just another step. so don't worry too much.
