Internal medicine is my passion but i couldnt get any USCE in IM. Instead i got psych Extern which i will start in a month. I want to know how it will play for an IM PD? I want to do this externship because something is better than nothing. this will be my first exposure to a US healthcare facility. I dont have any clinical experience in my home country either. Also psych is my second choice, if Godforbid i dont get IM, i will take psych. But i want to know can it harm my chances for an IM residency? My credentials steps score in mid 90's, 4-5 yrs since grad, US citizen. What do you think?

Every year, my program takes residents who have never touched a patient in the USA. Many programs don't require USCE and many more don't mandate that it has to be in the field that they are applying for.
