Well guys and gals back after long time. Got me score today and it's disappointing 212 / 88. I know it's not that bad but it is far below what i got on nbme and other pre tests. anyways hard luck on my part. As forum regulars might know i got an awesomely messed up exam day and it may be the result of that, but then it may not be! Anyways whining is not a part of my constitution so let's leave it at that. I had a dream of getting a good IM or a cat G Surg spot , but seems like the Step 1 score has almost sealed my fate. Anyways best of luck to all who helped and supported me throughout the preparation. Hope you all get the best of your preparations.
I am going for MPH in epidemiology at Emory this fall . Starting step 2 prep now. hope i can do better on that , at least compensate for the step 1 mess up.

Hey,
88 , good one, try to get 92 at leasr st 2 . Have friend like that score 1, 2, got Surgery , he applied cat & prel , both same hospital, he turned down good IM though got interview etc.
Do not know what ends up . But said as IMG, for prel may be , not sure cat at interview said, not sure to give cat as IMG , but who knows .
He's in, he happy he is in . He dream of ortho & was ortho b4 grad for a while ago.

an IMG friend started IM residency in Chicago last month...scores 82/88....no worries 
only thing that is sealed is step 1 ...get the envelope for step 2 now

88 is not bad at all . I am sure you will score higher on step 2 but even if someone has a 88 and 88 , there are good chances to get IM. Wish you good lcuk.

88 is not a bad score... and considering the day you had your 88 is compaprable to a 99...
good luck for your furture exams... DO NOT do your following exams at that prometric!

Hi,
Given such an experience during the, i think your score is not bad at all..But you have a very good chance of getting a better score in step 2..Just aim for a 99 in your step 2.

I cant believe people are DOOMED at a score of 88. Come on Man! U should be so thankful to GOD! I would be dancing madly if I ever get this score.

I think that you dont have what it takes to,,,,, wait what you said 88 , I mean you will get a happy residency position in the US, with no problem.

hey guys thanks for the words of encouragement. I again make my point. I aren't say that this is a bad score or anything but i was prepared for much more than this and it almost crushes my plans for getting a good surg/IM spot with a nice prospect of a fellowship combined with the effort i intend to put during my Epidemiology MPH at Emory. IF I'd have been anywhere near my NBME's [ 3 520 , 2 620 ] i'd have been happier. I mean the lowest i ever got was with NBME 3 and i improved a lot after that.
The exam day f **k up which interested people can read in my thread " Back form the Dead " on this same forum is the entire sad case in this entire thing. I could easily have done without the extra pressure and sleep exhaustion and overall blood boiling. But anyways i am stamped with this and there is no way out. Whatever people say about CV and pubs and all that , still Step 1 score is the filter which is used by program directors for choosing the first applicants batch. And My miserable exam day has messed the opportunity big time. It's not like I've never seen disappointment but it's the first time i am facing it despite not deserving it.
Anyways will have to see what can i do further with whats still in my hand [ step 2, step 3, MPH epidemiology] to score a good IM/surg spot if any is within reach.

How does MPH Epidemiology help in getting residency position? Is it a good combo with Family Medicine or Pediatrics-intended career?
