I have a question, are caribbean graduates prefered by PD over other FMGs since they do thier clinical rotations in US hospitals? do you think if I spend one year of clinical rotations in a caribbean medical school and get an MD degree form that school will this markedly improve my CV?will this help me getting into a competitive specialty like Radio or that would be a waste of time and money? thank you

depends on the prorgam. Some like Carribean grads because they are already american and blend in well ... others think something like the previous poster.

Also depends on the school. I've worked in three residency and a couple of the Caribbean school are very well thought of - it's been hit and miss with other schools.

thank you for replying. I'm ECFMG certified,my scores are step1 96 step2 99.I really wanna go into radio but good scroes alone are not enough I need to have USCE and more importantly I need to do some research in radio,I also need strong LORs, I don't have any of the these and it won't be easy to get all of them.so I'm thinking to invest one year at a caribbean school, I will gain USCE and I will have the chance to do 3 months of radio elective and may be I will have the chance to do some research and get strong LOR.I can also finish step3 during this year.what do you think guys? is it a good or bad investment? thank you

Students from GOOD caribbean med schools are up to par with american students....and yes we are favored because we do ALL our rotations in the U.S. and we are (for the most part) american citizens. You can check out where recent grads from Ross/Saba/SGU have matched, in the school's websites, Many are in Surgery/Radio/Derm/Path.
