I haven't sat for Step 3, but your approach seemed to me very good, as well as your score in UW. Did anything happen specifically during the exam days? Good luck next time, do not give up.

dncosta......Not really... I thought it went OK!!! I was expecting 80-85. The thought of not passing had not even crossed my mind. To be specific in one of the blocks I had to guess on four questions… cos I run out of time….. but than again thats just one block. Rest went OK. One of my CCS cases did not end, but the patient was getting better… rest of the cases went well….. all got better & cases ended in 12-15 minutes. What can I say MY LUCK SUCKS!!

Based on your prep and your scores, I am really confident that you were ready to go. I don't think changing to other material would be of any benefit. So my opinion would be training/studying again more the areas you were not great in the performance chart they sent you. And try again soon, in my opinion, having a lot of time to study is only an excuse to postpone what you should do right away, impairs you of maintaining the focus. I should start my prep in a couple of weeks, hopefully will be able to sit for the exam around September-October.

Sorry to hear your story DrOrange. You studied everything but still failed. I am scared now. I have started step 3 but now stopped to do externship. I am reading Clinical Practice Guidelines and Washington Manual. The attending doctor asks me to master both books. But I plan to sit for the exam before september in order to improve my application. What are your weak performances in your result report? I think you should concentrate on them. Good luck.

really sorry DrOrange... based on the score thread you should have passed... i think your first step is to fid out what went wrong and fix that... analyze your step2 and step3 score report... and as the above posts states - find your weak subjects... hit them hard... but above all - don't let this slow you down! - application season is coming and you need to be positive... good luck!

Thanks guys for the encouragement…… really appreciate it. step2ckjan07…. Did not take the nbme…. Didn’t think I needed it…. Guess I was wrong! robin082006….. “I am reading Clinical Practice Guidelines and Washington Manual”. Can u please elaborate on these books… cos I have not heard of them??? Would like to try though! I started my externship this month…. So I leave the house @ 7 am & get back @ 7 pm. So the only time I have for prep will be during the weekends. Maybe an hour @ max during the week. Still hopping to take it by mid Aug. Should I????

DrOrange, these books are recommended by my attending doctor. Clinical Practice Guidelines is a handbook of Kaiser Permanente, this is an internal material and cannot find in any boodstore. Washington Manual: I bought on Amazon, the attending doctor said that this is standard book for practice and residency too. I saw some Kap and UW questions are in these books. Good luck.

Dr.Orange after reading ur post I am so scared of taking the exam. Can you tell where you made mistakes so we can correct that. In my opinion what went wrong was may be u didn't get time to revise the stuff u read and wasn't very sure of answering some of the questions coz of may be some confusion. I would stick to some of the material and revise them rather reading so much stuff. If ur done with 2ck,3notes,uw twice or trice then think of something else. i don't thing it is possible to do washington manual fro all the topics, but would love to do some topics if suggested Anybody help us. And good luck Dr.Orange,we are with you.

Dr Orange I use 32rd spiral bound edition. Washington Manual is recommended for externship, observership. Very few people used it for step 3.

Hi Dr. Orange wat happened was most unfortunate. Although I might be awefully wrong but I hv the impression that u got a lil too overboard by the material, I mean the no. of books u read but again that does not quite explain ur good score on UW which definitely indicates that u prepared well. If I were u, I'd stick to CK notes and do as many questions as possible stressing especially on my weak areas and hope for the best.
