why does a baby with this anemia doesnot show symptoms at birth ?

because of persistent hgbF persist for some time. as a fact SC dz is not diagnoses until after 6 months

correct there is increased HbF and thus decreased HbS at birth and few months after it ( may be 6 months to 1 yr)

and fetal hemoglobin is less prone to hypoxia because it doesnt bind to 2,3-BPG strongly...

and also HbF interferes and inhibits the polymerization of HbS under deoxygenated state.
