Gardnerella vaginalis is IMPLICATED in bacterial vaginosis (BV) but it isn't necessarily the only component. Whiff tests are usually performed by the physician and not sent to the lab. Clue cells can easily be seen on a wet preparation once you know what you're looking for. Some laboratories don't even culture for G. vag. any more. Be sure to check with the lab you're using to see if they do.

whats exactly a clue cell....is it a cell with the gardnerella in it?Is it a pap smear or is it a biopsy done or just a swab?

It is a squamous epithelial cell with bacteria adhering to it - mostly the gram variable rods of Garnerella.
