I have been failing my NBME so want to start from scratch with studying. I am looking for someone to help with content (drilling and planning) as well as test taking strategies in either the Cleveland, OH areas or the Leesburg, VA areas. Washington DC works too. Thanks!

Hey Scared To Death,

My name is Vince.

I just want to let you know that I took my Step I. I went through lots of training between Kaplan and the Pass Program.

I conclude that it comes down to the following:

1. Understanding the BIG picture
2. Understanding the CONCEPTS
3. Discovering the CLUES
4. BUILDING that genuine Self-Confidence
5. Knowing TECHNIQUES to answering questions
& there are actually SIMPLE techniques that exist

6. Having an organized, realistic schedule
7. Monitoring your progress and enhancing your weak areas

I’m just sharing my experiences and thought process with you.

I have a handful of students I tutor through the phone. It sounds weird, but its not ---- Its effective.

If you are interested please let me know and I would be more than happy to help tutor and set up a study schedule, etc.

I do charge $10 an hr. Nevertheless, I do the 1st 2 hrs for FREE. Thus, if you like it, then we continue.

Well, I believe that is everything. Please let me know if you are interested or if you have any questions.

Thank You,

Vince

I m Sorry Dr Vinnie But i m going to have to Disagree with U on that Part. I m Going TO offer the Same services to this Fella and Not Charge him a Single Penny Except that I ask him/her to Remember me in their Prayers.

This was the Idea on which the Forum Was built to help ppl out of free will and free of cost.

And this is wht i m going to do

scared to death, i reccomend instead of getting a tutor, get guidance frm this forum & if u still feel hesitant, kaplan centerprep...
pick your sources & stick to them & keep rereading them ...suggestions:
kaplan LN for all subjects except patho, u can get goljan; get the kaplan videos w/ the notes
first aid
& do lots & lots of questions, u can get so many free downloads frm this site w/ questions...ther's also uworld, kaplan q book
i have a total of over 5000 Q all which are pretty much free except usmle world....i plan to do every single question
also take notes frm other ppl's exams experiences, can help guide u...
believe there's nothing to fear, u can do it!! just get calm & a bit organized....there's alot of ppl in this forum who'll help u out of the kindness of their heart

Ok you want help and free ee, I dont know if you have time or not but

1- Theres a guy call tommy k, he posted alot of stuff and gave alot of concepts and advise you can get that in a place call valuemd.com, You have to be a member to acces his stuff.

Its really good because it gives the big picture and its like someone talking to you.
and its free.
2- Make a prepjournal here and just talk about the thing you are doing, and what are you planing to do.
3- You will se the help you get in this website is free, and its with good faith wishing you the best.
God bless and good luck

Also looking for someone with experience to help with test taking strategies - that's big deficit of mine. Do you know anyone in the DC area?

scared to death, in my humble opinion, the best method is practice...

You'll find some texts throughout this forum that can help you, but it is not someone telling you what to do during the exam that will help you; you have to develop your method, I know it is easier said than done, but it is part of the process.

Some MCQ banks, especially Usmle World, are great learning tools in that they teach you the theory underlying the question but also the approach to interpret question and options.

You'll find posts in this forum that will help you to manage the tests (e.g., start reading the question by its last sentence to know what to filter when reading the remaining, etc).

Nothing personal against anyone, but always doubt of someone that tells you that he/she can teach you how to learn, how to achieve success, there is no straight road or easy formula. And what works for someone is not fully suitable to somebody else.

Try to get motivation (this forum helps), time (this is a critical factor for a lot of people) and access to information (best books, advices from this forum) and good luck on your projects.
