Hello
I am just about to start my first read for micro and I am completly confused as to what to read for this class. During med school I did well in the class but don't remember a single thing anymore. At that time the school had provided us with handouts and that is what I studied out of. They were enough for those exams but I know it isn't sfficient for the step 1. I have the Kaplan micro lecture book along with the lectures, and I also have Micro made ridicously simple. Out of the 2 which one would you guys suggest. Also if there is anything better than those 2 please do let me know as I will go and purchase it. I really need yur help. Thank you sooo much.

lots of confusa for u eh???
dont worry it happens to all of us....
believe me or not i spent abt 2 weeks deciding what to read from where.......asking , consulting, searching, verifying...it was painful but important
now herez my piece of advice......
do Micro made rid simple for bacterio,viro,parasito
add levinson microbiology (lange) for immunology (general micro -sec I optional)
revise micro with 1st aid n kap med essential
that completes it........then do as many Qs as u can.....

i did micro and immuno both from the kaplan lecture notes and found them to be more than enough.

If you want to do detailed study and you have time go for KLN or Jawetz or MMRS. If the time is less say for example a month FA is good enough

i did kaplan for immunology as i was weak in that subject and it cleared a lot of doubts in my head...learnt the ocncepts well. but for micro, i am soon discovering(after going thru kaplan once)FA is good. i am going to supplement it with UCV's(the clinical vignettes)
kaplan for micro is too long i think.dont need that much. same goes for anatomy. i am going to do the same with anatomy.

Ahhhhhh Im still really confused. I guess Ill take yur advice and do Immunolgy out of Kaplan and do the rest out of MMRS. If not then I guess Ill just do all of it from Kaplan. Its just the size of that book scares me. I will be starting Micro in about 5 or so days. So if anyone can give me anymre advice I would appreciate it. But for all of you guys who have already helped in in the VERY confusing time of mine......THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!!

s-s...Kaplan is not too long trust me its not !!! lots of pages for Qs tables ... if you once go over it clearly like in 10 days then the second read will take 2 days

Thanks a lot Feyza......yur enthusiasm really does help. I just finished reading yur post about Dr.Golijan and how people think you've gone crazy. It really made me laugh. I can't wait to get to that point where I can be sitting there laughing. I wanna score well. That's all I want right now. And people like you and all those who have replied to my posts really help me believe that maybe I will and that maybe I can. I was thinking about it, and instead of going through 2 different books.....I think I will stick to just Kaplan. Or a person like me might get overwhelmed knowing I still have a nother book to go through. I only plan on spending 10 solid days on Micro anyway. So lets see how much I can push myself.

Study_Study, I was also confused about micro when I decided to read it, I had Kaplan, MRS, Levinson, all are too big with too much details
Finally, I found HY micro to be the best book to study micro from, small but enough, I used levinson as a reference only.

Ive decided....Micro from Kaplan....I dont wanna jump from book to book. I hope its good enough for the step 1. I will also review from FA.
Other than that everything else is fine. Its taking me a while to complete biochem....mostly cuz I feel like I keep forgetting everything. Maybe I just feel like that. But I really wanan do well on this exam.

hi..
i heard from people that FA was sufficient enough.
but i heard from one source that i totally will listen to, who said, just do kaplan the book (no audio needed) and FA. i should mention he got a 97 or 98. cant remember which one.
he also said to skip kap audio for pharm and anatomy.
i will post in a day or two his whole advice that he gave. its pretty simplistic. but its good to have a source who did so well
