treatment was given---methotrexate----
developed bone marrow suppression. What drug can
be added to prevent this---leucovorin

  #5

the Treatment for RA was Methotrexate and the bone marrow suppression which results from it is stopped by giving Leucovorin. This called is Leucovorin Rescue. Leucovorin is formyl tetrahydrofolate which accumulates in the normal cells more than neoplastic cells thus it bypasses the step of dihydrofolate reductase which is inhibited by Methotrexate.

nod Yep...

leocovorin........

increases availability of substrate so even if DHFR blocked....bone marrow supression doesnot occour....as there is bypassing of that step.....nod
