I'm an Italian graduate. I want to apply for USMLE. I've read info booklet but I don't understand how to apply.
Could you tell me if that is correct?
1.IWA: on line, print and make your dean sign form 186
2. send completed 186 and 187 form
but when have I to send credentials? Degree copy with translation, form 344 and 345, photo... together with 186-187 or later?
please help me!!!

are you still a student or a graduate? do you intend to go with the online format or the paper application?
here is the procedure for online application.
1] create an account for yourself at ECFMG. Do this by clicking on IWA.
2] you will receive an ECFMG no and one-time password, withing 5 working days of applying for it. if 5 working days have passed and you have not received it, send in another application.
3] next, fill up the actual online application form. it involves entering all your details, credentials, info about your med school. it should take you about 60 - 90 mins. Take your time. It is more important not to make any errors, which cannot be rectified. this is the stage where you pay. make sure you have a valid credit card on hand.
*note- you can complete filling this form in more than one sitting. it saves the info you have entered, and stores it for 2 weeks. so return at least once within 2 weeks to maintain the recording. otherwise you will have to start typing all over.
4] fill up Form 186[Certification of Identification]. This needs to be notarized by an official at your med school or by a government official. This form is to be printed off the net.
5] download Forms 344[a checklist to ensure you have submitted all appropriate papers at once] and 345[ECFMG will send it to your med school for verifying your diploma and to obtain your transcripts], fill them appropriately.
6] you need to also download and fill up Form 187, it will accompany your documents
7] 2 copies of your medical school diploma
8] 1 additional full face photograph [this is in addition to the one you will paste on Form 186]
9] send this entire package to ECFMG in good time
10] start preparing for the MLE! good luck!
this is an very simplified, uncomplicated translation of the ECFMG booklet. but, do read it yourself to satisfy yourself. get back to me if you have any questions in spite of this extensive reply.
