I need a good dose of reality so please be honest. I have scored 200 and 230 on the NBME a week apart (took the last one today). I have been recently been scoring 40 to 60% on qbank and I'm 58% through. I was going to take the text in 2 weeks but I'm going to move it back till July 4th which gives me 3 weeks and a couple of days. I still have pharm and anatomy to learn but I've gone through most organ systems and some behavorial science, plus biochem and micro. I have a bad history of test taking but I really just want to pass this. Any advice or do you think I need to take a lot more time to get through this?????

That 200 is the NBME score or is that the corresponding USMLE score?

Do not take the test pay 50 dollars and get another 3 months. You are not prepare, you are most likelly going to fail the test Right now try to make a prepjournal to help you on your track. Buy usmle world, and hit pause on your life if you can. Im very sorry to be the one to tell you this, but you must hit pause.

Scared, make First Aid for the USMLE Step 1 your very best friend, starting now. I agree with Gogeta, pay up the fee and change your date. Hit FA and Qbank harder than ever over the next few months. Then take another NBME. Good luck!

I was just PMing gogeta that I'm really desperate 'coz I start rotations on July 8th and don't even know if my school gives extenstions like that (we're a fairly new program and there's no precedence for this type of thing). With 3 week 12 hour days, you don't think it's even feasible. I have kaplan books, brs, firstaid, qbank, goljan audio. I'm so desperate, I don't know what to do

well i can understand that some schools have problems with moving dates for rotations, but i think the firrst thing to do is call ur school and find out what their policies are about changing ur dates, if its possible, pls do it, Gogeeta and eddie are right, its def the best thing to do, because if u fail it now, u will have to spend more time and money doing it all over, so best to get it done with once and for all, but if u cant absolutely get it changed then move it to he closest date near ur rotation, maybe th 6th, it gives u abt 1 month roughly, then u have to study 8-12hr if u can manage, do FA again very well, listen to golijan and do UW take the nbme again a few days to the test, if u get a good score the take it , if not pls move it, like i always say....what is worth doing is worth doing well! good luck

Ok, I think you should talk to your school, have them postpone your first clinical rotation, then make your exam in 6-8 weeks. I think you need 420 (someone clear this, a guess) on NBME to be safe? I have read posts where they gain as much as 50 points in one week, but every situation different. The school has it in their best interest to support you by insuring they do everything to help you pass step 1. All schools strive for high success rates. Yours should be no exception

Ok. Point taken. Thank you so much for your honesty. So my question is this. Do you think I can afford to study for 2 weeks (BRS and firstaid with qbank 8 to 12 hours a day), then take another practice test to see where I'm at? Then pay the $50 and move the date if it's definitely not salvageable? I would tell my school this plan immediately though. Or do you think I need to start from scratch with more detailed resources and go ahead and cancel now?

I have had few of my friends fail this exm with 390 and 400 on couple of the NBMEs. In fact one of my boy's who just took it for the 3rd time few hours ago told me that I shouldn't try to take this exam if i can't score above 420! I am actually not going to take my exam if i can't hit at least 450 on one of the nbme forms (#2, 3, 4) might take #1 in 2 weeks after my kaplan course gets done. Anyway, my point of all this banter is the same as everyone else on here so far. U have to change your date!! It's going to be quite a miracle to try to pull off what u are attempting. I believe in miracles, but we also have to heed some signs from time to time (i.e 200 or 230 on nbme). u apparently have lot of resources but u should just stick to one! I would finish reading kaplan notes and read or listen to goljan one more time and try to do bunch of questions. Try your best to get out of that clinical rotation. I don't think your school would want to start off with a bad record. Your passing score is just as important to them to help build there reputation as it is to you, since they are so new.
