I'm a newbie,, as it shows. I need some guidance from forum seniors. I'm really confused about the concept of preliminary residencies. I've heard that after getting a prelim in a progaram you have to reapply to that program again in next match. and there's high probability that the program will accept you. but i can't understand: 1. Is preliminary year considered PGY 1 2. What's the diadv of prelim wrt categorical 3. what if a program doesn't accept u next matchins season

1. as a prelim you would be PGY1 2. you'd have to apply again in most subspecialties the following match..may not be true for neuro/ophthal/dermat...varies with institutional policies if they'd just take u in directly 3. try a different program...try a different subspecialty..prelim is valid for a lot of things..gen surg, ophthal, derm, anesthesia,..etc..its highly unlikely that you would end up unmatched as the USCE gained would be a significant pro
