hey....its not so difficult.. blood/gas coef...means the ratio of any substance in blood and gas. for example nitrous oxide has high B/G coef...this means when N20 is inhaled by a person...it rapidly DIFFUSES from the alveoli into the blood....and very soon it occupies about whole of the space in the alveoli.....helps in easy induction by inhalational anesthetics. at the end when the anesthetic supply is stopped....N2O quickly moves from the blood and again occupies whole of the alveoli.... overall it means that if a substance has high B/G coef. it has huge capacity to diffuse across the blood alveolar barrier. the diffusion is very rapid.... is it confusing....

nitrous oxide has the lowest blood:gas partition coeficient of all available inhaled anesthetics that is why it has the highest MAC, rapid onset and recovery.
