a low level of carbon dioxide labeled with 14C(radioactive) is accidently released into the atmosphere sorounding industrial workers as they resume work following the lunch hour. unknowingly, they breathe the contaminated air for one hour. which of the following compounds will be radioactively labeled???
A- all of the carbon atoms of newly synthesised fatty acid.

C-the carboxyl atom of newly sythesised fatty acids.
D-about one third of the carbons of newly synthesised malonyl CoA.
E-one half of the carbon atoms of newly synthesised acetyl CoA.

Because,during fatty acids biosynthesis, CO2 in form of HCO3-, is used to produce Malonyl-CoA. Then, the [14C]Malonyl-CoA will condensate sucessivly with Acetyl-CoA with elimination of [14C]CO2. So, the new fatty acid doesn't have 14C from CO2. (see image link below)

So I think the 14C is only found in newly synthetised Malonyl-CoA.
