6. the clearance of several substances was measured at a constant glomerular filtration rate and constant urine flow rate, but at increasing plasma concentrations of the substance. Under these conditions, clearance will increase at high plasma concentrations for which of the following substances? A. Creatinine B. Mannitol C. Penicillin D. Phosphate E. Urea List in order of decreasing renal clearance the following substances: glucose urea sodium inulin

creatinine clearance of creat. is always slightly greater than clearance of inulin bs creatinine is filtered and small amount exhibits net secretion.

Duck, I was under the impression that urea is greater than sodium..I'll have to check that again. On Q1, you missed it (so did I), care to venture another guess? If not, I'll post the answer in 1 day. It is a VERY interesting q, so I want to give other posters time to get it right.

is it penicillin???? just came to my mind that we give probenacid to decrease its secretion......so as to prolong its action.....and inhibit early elimination..... i m waiting for ur answer

The only substances whose clearance increases with an increase in their plasma concentration alone, are those which are normally actively reabsorbed and have T max....say glucose. Since most of the Phosphate that is filtered is reabsorbed only in the proximal tubule via cotransport, my answer would be Phosphate.

I THINK ITS PENICILLIN. PARA AMINO HIPPURIC ACID HAS INCREASED FILTRATION WITH INCREASING CONCENTRATION. THE SAME GOES WIT PENICILLIN TOO. I remember this q,its from kaplan physiology notes.

Duck, unfortunately, I could not find the answer out for ya. In case you found it, do let me know. In this case, until someone else chimes in and gives a good explanation, I'll go w/ the answers to this question.
