I've Had this quest 4 times uptill now on the UW bank & I only finished 20% of it, I went through Kaplan & I didnt find it so I decided to Share it with U:

Defenition & Presentation: Migratory thrombophlebitis anywhere.
Etiology: Tumor (not always detectable)
Comman Sites: 24%--> Pancreatic Carcinoma (10% of panc
adenocarcinoma cause the disease)
20%--> Lung Cancer
13%--> Prostate cancer
12%--> Stomach Cancer
9%--> Leukemia
5%--> Colon Cancer
Pathology--> Elaboration of plat aggregation factors & procoagulants from tumor or its necrotic products---->Arterial & Ven Thrombi (so u defenitely need coagulation studies & Doppler)

If embolized to the lung-->Large Saddle Pulmonary embolus(more comman than a small one & Definitely more serious)-->Sudden severe duspnea & pt DEMISE. / OR small embolus--> Pulmonary infrction + Dyspnea & Chest Pain---> So definitely u need a V/Q Scan &/or spiral CT.

Upper GI endoscopy is reseved only if CT Abdomen(First Diag,First Initial) for cancer pancreas but the choice of the investigation after the CT is totaly dependant on the PRESENTATION (eg--> C X-Ray or colonoscopy)

Females>Males esp with incresed age
Smoking has a higher incidence(as always)

1st Diag test---->Abdominal CT(VVVVVVVimp)

DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT TREATMENT BUT I GUESS IT HAS TO BE SURGICAL
