Internal Medicine is possible with 86. I know nothing about radiology. Knowing somebody is always good.nod

in this country more than scores, more than your clinical experience or visa status ,contacts are the ultimate.rules dont apply to you if you have a contact and that too if she is at high post.a lot of all ready trained radiologists from their home countries are coming and getting into fellowships, work for 4 yrs and get board certified.i dont know about if they are eligible to work here like that or not,but they are doing it.

contacts work bigggggggggggg time.

since u are still in med school, you might wanna do an elective. Wil help u quite a bit. score really really well on ck. And make sure u develop quite a few contacts when u come here for an elective. the elective can hlp u in IM too. You have enough time before you apply. Make wise decisions and appropriate use of that time.

I hate to burst your bubble, but radiology is very competitive even for american graduates. Even foreign grads for 98-99 are not being looked at if they apply to radiology, so with a 86 on step 1 (good score, but not close to what they look for in a radiology program for a foreign grad), I would suggest not wasting your money or time. With the competition these days, foreign grads who aren't citizens or GC holders aren't even getting proper IV's to internal medicine with scores under 90. Nothing is impossible, but don't unnecessarily get your hopes up. Keep your goals to internal medicine or FM...

in agreement with volverine.
i'd still be more blunt,,,,
with 86 in S1
either you need a 99 in ck
then you can think slightly about i/m
otherwise , focus on FM
but , i can tell one thing, if you are highly determined
no score can stop you from getting anything,,,,,,,
an acquaintance had scores in 70's
but he said i want to do ENT period..........
it took him 3 years, close to 25000$
but he is an ENT resident , about to enter in his PGY2.
so choice is yours.....................
GL with CK

Ouch! I think that was very blunt puchpal shocked ...
I think if he gets a similar score in ck with a little usce he is going to do pretty well in internal medicine. Have many friends that have matched in good places with lesser creds, is just about making the right moves. 86 is not the end of the world... is just a little less than national average.

What is wrong about being average?

BTW I have a friend that prematched in IM with scores in 70s, is just about having the right stuff..

I dont know about radio but I guess unless you dont make the right connections in your path is going to be quite hard to achieve.. Not impossible but it might take ou a couple of years of usce and a couple of thousands dollars...
