I think outer membrane proteins... alive MEANS its expressing genes and transcription is in progress... pili stay there typical example is neisseria meningitidis which expresses a lot of outer membrane protiens which are more than it can sustain in membrane and causes rashes and other features...

yes thats true... the question is HOW DO YOU GET TO KNOW that an organism is alive ... its a common tricky question... OMPs are the ones that tell u if the organism is alive because if the organism is alive..it will keep on producing the OMPs ...while if its dead....OMPs will not be produced ....pili and polysaccharide are structural units which will stay there even if the organism is dead
