Superior mesenteric artery, both 3rd part of duodenum and head of pancreas lie adjacent to that vessel, and it is common that tumors arising there invade the SMA.

dncosta, SMA lies ant to 3rd part of dudenum and IMA,aorta, IVC lies posteriorly to the 3rd part of dudenum and head of the pancreas in the concavity of the duedenum. why tumor associated with 3rd part compress only SMA, why it cant obstruct posterior structure.

This is a clinical (or surgical) fact. IMA arises from aorta inferior to that level. And aorta and IVC are rarely invaded (although commonly surrounded, especially in lymphomas).

Also IVC is so thick and has a wide diameter to be affaected than SMA.
