Amongst all your choices the only one which could really afford you a 9 to 5 job is family medicine....in all the others, especially if your hospital based, you'll have calls and late hours. With Peads you could do private practice and have reasonable hours as well. I can say from personal experiance that IM and Neuro are quite hectic even after graduation...our staff usually don't leave the hospital until 7 or 8 pm, and are back the next day at 7 am...The other alternative is you could do IM and then choose a relatively easiy fellowship like geriatrics/endocrinology/rheumatology...but you'll still have to do clinics, floors and calls after you graduate in most cases.........if I were in your place..I'd pick FM.
