I just took my exam at houston center and proctors as well as SP's are all very nice and professional. All you need to do is follow the instructions religiously. The only issue is nerves! I had read UW and FA twice, practiced with someone atleast once all cases, so i guess i was prepared. I wasnt that nervous but my first few cases (atleast 3 out of 12) were pretty vague. I asked every question and Reviewed every system but no positive history so that got me frustrated. Other than that, i never had to repeat my sentences neither i asked them to repeat anything so communication/spoken english part was fine. I did all the usuals robotically e.g knocking, smiling introducing myself shaking hands draping and being very polite. I asked permission everytime before opening up gowns, i tied them back, used foot rest everytime, washed hands and did proper closure in all cases. i said sympathy in every case atleast once. Asked PAmhugsfoss, ROS in every case. Finished every case at 12 or 13 min except once where i was saying "i will see u as soon as i get the lab results back" and the time ran out. I made alot of mistakes too. 1. Did not tell a pt he needs to stop smoking. 2. Didnt tell another one to stop drinking. 3.Did not ask for consent for a lab test that would be done later. 4. Wrote most possible diagnosis second in one vague case when it should have been the first. 5.i think i did not tell a pt about a physical exam that should be done at later visit. 6. didnot ask LMP from a girl, but it wasnt a related case. 7.Did heart exam only where it was relevant. 8. Completed PN in all cases before time. My writing is pretty okay but the story i wrote was once or twice a little hap hazard. e.g now im done explaining all LiQORAA of pain..wrote associated symptoms and then relevant negatives of the history then suddenly remembered and wrote the TYPE of pain. 9.Sometimes i felt i should have wrote my 2nd or 3rd differential at the top...but then those cases were a little VAgue. 10. I may have missed diagnosis in 2 cases im not sure though. Can you tell me how important is it to diagnose correctly? I am sure there will be alot more and my mind is probably blocking those negative memories. Do you guys think i did enough to pass? ADVICE for future examinees. Please dont take this exam lightly, its as much a part of licensing as any other exam. Practice in time mode and history questions and differentials SHOULD BE ON YOUR TIPS. GOODLUCK

I also think you passed! there a lot of room for mistakes... not important to diagnose correctly... gathering the necessary data, doing a relevant PE, while maintaining professionalism and making your SP feel confidence in you, is whats needed to pass this exam... sounds like you have done that... congrats and good luck!

yes kity i think we should practice for 14 min because anxiety levels are different at home and at exam so try to be as quick as possible. Try to memorize all the questions so that they become a reflex. Goodluck

yes actually i called them vague because they did not give any positive history. I just told them they might have some viral infection for which i have to run some blood tests. I'll get back with you as soon as i get the results.
