I noticed there are alot of contradictories between kaplan and UW!
For example : emancipation for minors in kaplan is not by pregnancy but it is so in UW.
i can find 1 or 2 in each block!!
did you notice that too?

What do you suggest we do???

Pregnancy by itself isn’t the emancipating factor. If a 14 yo girl gets pregnant, would it make here emancipated? No, but her boyfriend enjailed for sure...

In this case Kaplan is right.
In a question I posted earlier about H. pylori, UW was supposedly right over Kaplan.

How do I know which source to trust and when????

I think we can handle this by a third source.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what do you recommend as a reliable third source (especially for hard to find questions like: what is the next best step?)

All right, here is the third source: http://www.peoples-law.org/children/emancipation/...

What if a minor is pregnant?

Unlike marriage, getting pregnant and having children does not mean that a minor is emancipated. The reasoning is that when a minor marries the spouse (rather than the parents) will support the minor. By contrast in most cases, a minor who is pregnant (or recently gave birth) will continue to depend on parents or legal guardians for financial support.

In Maryland there are exceptions to this general rule.

A pregnant female over age 16 is "emancipated with respect to matters concerning the pregnancy" (In re. Smith 16 Md. App. 209,295, A.2d 238 (1972)). This means that she has the right to control her own decisions about her pregnancy. This includes decisions about pre-natal care and abortion.

Another exception would be if a minor moves out of a parent's house and set up housekeeping with the child's father, a friend, or partner. Depending on overall circumstances, this may show that s/he intends to be free from the parent's custody, control and support.

What if a minor wants an abortion?

Abortion without parental consent - If a minor is not married, the doctor may not perform an abortion unless the parent or guardian are notified first. (MD. Code Ann., Health Gen. §20-103(a))

The physician may perform the abortion without notifying the parent or guardian if the minor does not live with a parent or guardian or if the physician efforts to notify them have failed. (MD. Code Ann., Health Gen. §20-103(b))

Parental consent not required - The doctor may also perform the abortion without notifying the parent or guardian if the physician decides that:

* notice to the parent or guardian may lead to physical or emotional abuse of the minor,
* the minor is mature and capable of giving informed consent to an abortion, or
* notification would not be in the "best interest" of the minor.

As you can see/read, without full info, i.e. lives with parent/not with parent), is self-supported vs supported by parents, it is hard to decide for sure. But the general sense is that pregnancy is NOT the emancipating factor.

And, probably, this low would vary from state to state, with less restrictions in California and absolutely firm in Ohio or Alabama...

Dear Justice the point here is not about emancipation its about many points of contradictories like the next step in symptomatic hypernatremia , endoscopy in epigatric pain among many others .

pencillin will be given during pregnancy even in pencillin allergic individuals after doing desensitization - CMDT 2007.

  #14

above post is for syphilis during pregnancy.

Maybe we should have a thread for ALL the UW vs Kaplan contradictions... Maybe we can use this thread for that purpose, and discuss these differences and state a creditable third source for the right answer to end the dispute.

So whenever you find a difference come here and post it so we can discuss it. I think that would help a lot of people who are in the same situation.

Thanks.

Here you are a new one
For meningitis in immunocompromised (e.g:after transplant)
Kaplan:Ceftrixone + Ampecillin Add Vancomycin ONLY if you sure it is Resistant Pneumococci.
UW: Give all three!!!
